Biography
Dominic
Mulvany - a singer-songwriter from Dalkey, Co Dublin - launched his recording career in
Ireland in 1981 with a double A-side single, "In the City/Your Smile is on my
Mind" on the Kish label: an impressive start which resulted in extensive airplay and
very positive reviews. Following this success Dominic released the single
"Ibiza"on the Scoff/Vixen label in 1982, which dominated Irish airwaves
for several months and led to several TV appearances. Further releases on
Scoff/Vixen ensued - "I've Come to Say Goodbye", "Into Your Love
Again" and "Watching the Northern Lights".
It was whilst playing at the Sands Hotel in Portmarnock that Dominic met Arsenal and Irish
International football player John Devine. The two became good friends, and John
subsequently produced one of Dominic's recordings - a Ewan McColl song called
"Travelling People".
In 1990 Dominic released the album "Vagabond Moon". With a
vibrant, acoustic feel, it was well-received by critics and fans, and led to several
high-profile slots on well-known Irish TV programs (such as "Kenny Live" and
"Nighthawks"). Dominic promoted the album extensively, performing in
venues such as Dublin's internationally renowned Whelan's and Béal Bocht; he also played
support slots to well-known Irish acts such as Freddie White and Mick Hanly.
During the 1990s Dominic turned his focus largely to classical piano-playing, becoming a
Fellow of the Victoria College of Music, London and playing high profile piano concerts -
most notably for President Mary McAleese at the Royal Irish Academy of Music's re-opening
of Dagg Hall.
He also worked on other artists' recording projects, producing some tracks for
singer-songwriter Tim Ambler (2003) and engineering
some of Dublin singer-songwriter Singleton's early
work (1997). In September 2003, he decided to turn his attention back to his own
songwriting, writing the album "Diving for Pearls". He asked Singleton to
produce and sessions started in Singleton's studio in December 2003. With a much
more "electric" sound than Dominic's previous albums, it is now available to buy
